What is a BGP Session and Why Do You Need It?
BGP, or Border Gateway Protocol, is the routing protocol that powers the internet. It's how different networks (called Autonomous Systems) share routing information to direct traffic efficiently across the globe.
A BGP Session with BytesRack allows your dedicated server to participate directly in this global routing system. Instead of using IPs assigned by us, you can "bring your own IP" (BYOIP) addresses and announce them from our data centers. This means the internet sees these IPs as yours, managed by you, giving you complete authority over how traffic reaches your servers.

Worldwide reach
You are a perfect candidate for our BGP Hosting service if you:
Traffic Engineers
Manage a large network and require sophisticated traffic engineering for optimal performance.
Resilience & Uptime
Need to multihome your network across multiple providers for 100% uptime assurance and fault tolerance.
True Independence
Want to maintain IP address portability and ownership to avoid vendor lock-in in the future.
The BytesRack Advantage: Key Benefits of BGP Hosting
Leverage our robust infrastructure to empower your network.
Total Network Autonomy
Announce and manage your own IPv4 and IPv6 prefixes. You dictate the routing policies and how the world connects to your services.
Gain granular control over traffic flow, optimize for performance, and deploy custom security policies at the network edge.
Global Network Reach
Your prefixes are announced across our entire global footprint, providing low-latency peering with major Tier-1 carriers and internet exchanges.
Deliver a superior, faster experience for your users, no matter where they are located.
Permanent IP Portability
Your ASN and IP addresses belong to you. If you ever change providers, your digital identity remains the same without needing to re-number your entire infrastructure.
Achieve true infrastructure independence and future-proof your network investment.
Enhanced Redundancy
Easily establish a multihomed setup by connecting to multiple upstream providers (including us) simultaneously.
Drastically increase your network's resilience and fault tolerance, ensuring maximum uptime even during a provider outage.
Service Requirements & Technical Specifications
To maintain the integrity of the global routing table and ensure network security, we have a clear and standardized set of requirements.
To Get Started, You Must Have:
Valid Autonomous System Number (ASN)
Your ASN must be officially registered to your organization through a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) like RIPE, ARIN, APNIC, etc.
Registered IP Subnets
You must own properly registered IPv4 or IPv6 subnets (prefixes) that are linked to your ASN in the RIR database.
Letter of Authorization (LOA)
This is a standard legal document that formally grants BytesRack permission to announce your IP prefixes on your behalf. This critical step prevents route hijacking and is mandatory.
Technical Details:
BGP Version
We establish sessions using BGP-4 (as defined in RFC 4271).
Session Type
A standard eBGP (External BGP) session is configured between your dedicated server (or firewall) and our edge routers.
Route Security
We enforce strict route filtering based on your LOA. We strongly recommend and support RPKI and IRR filtering to ensure routing security and hygiene.
Supported Prefixes
We fully support both IPv4 and IPv6 subnets.
Your Path to Network Independence: Getting Started
Our streamlined process ensures your BGP session is configured quickly and correctly.
Contact Our Team
Reach out to our sales experts with your ASN and the IP subnets you wish to announce.
Submit Your LOA
We'll provide you with our LOA template to complete, sign, and return for validation.
Complete Payment
We will invoice you for the dedicated server service, which includes the monthly recurring fee of $85 and a one-time setup fee of $100
We Configure & Test
Our certified engineers will provision and test the BGP peering session on our edge routers.
Go Live!
Once testing is successful, your prefixes will be announced, and your network will be fully independent.
